Bangladesh, UK Discuss Climate Adaptation and Renewable Energy Cooperation

London, UK – Bangladesh and the United Kingdom have discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation on climate adaptation, resilience, climate finance and renewable energy to address shared climate challenges. The issues were discussed at a meeting between Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam and UK Special Representative for Climate Rachel Kyte in London on Thursday, according to a press release issued by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in carbon markets, investment in the green and blue economies, strengthening climate resilience and accelerating the transition to renewable energy. Shama highlighted Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to enhance climate resilience, promote renewable energy and encourage community participation in climate action. Both sides also exchanged views on the disproportionate effects of climate change on women and children, exploring opportunities for collaboration in climate-related technology and innovation.

They emphasised the need to translate international climate commitments into concrete actions to ensure meaningful progress in addressing the climate crisis. The meeting also reviewed key priorities for the upcoming COP31 climate conference, particularly climate finance, adaptation measures and stronger international cooperation to tackle shared environmental challenges.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Muhammad Abdul Muhith, was also present at the meeting. The discussions reflect the shared interest of Bangladesh and the UK in strengthening climate partnerships, mobilising financial resources and advancing sustainable energy solutions in response to the growing impacts of climate change.
