New York Election Tomorrow: Voters Urged to Prepare for Language Assistance

NEW YORK: New York City residents will head to the polls tomorrow, Tuesday, November 3, as the NYC Civic Engagement Commission urges voters to make necessary preparations and exercise their right to vote. In a message to New Yorkers, the commission encouraged those who have not already voted early to make a plan to cast their ballots. Voters are advised to check their designated polling locations and review the candidates and ballot proposals before heading to the polls.

The commission also reminded residents of important deadlines for mail ballots. Monday, November 2, is the final day to request a mail ballot in person at a local Board of Elections office. Tuesday, November 3, is the final day to postmark or drop off a completed mail ballot. The NYC Civic Engagement Commission emphasized that voters have the right to receive voting assistance in their preferred language. Voters may also bring an interpreter, including a family member or friend, to help them at their polling site.

Through its Voter Language Assistance (VLA) Program, the commission will provide interpretation services at 100 polling sites across New York City on Election Day. Language assistance will be available in several languages, including Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), French, Greek, Haitian Creole, Italian, Korean, Polish, Russian, Urdu and Yiddish. The initiative is particularly important for Bengali-speaking voters and other residents who may need language support to understand election information and navigate the voting process.

Voters can find information about polling locations, candidates and ballot proposals, election procedures, and language assistance by visiting the commission’s website at on.nyc.gov/vla. The commission urged all New Yorkers to participate in the election and make their voices heard.
