Hasina, Rehana Graft Case: Probe Report Submission Set for January 31
DHAKA, Bangladesh — A Dhaka court has set January 31, 2027, for submission of the investigation report in a corruption case involving ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and former Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) chairman Md. Nazrul Islam Mazumder over the alleged receipt of Tk 276.34 crore from corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds.
The report was scheduled to be submitted on Thursday, but the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which is investigating the case, failed to file it within the stipulated time. Judge Shahjahan Kabir of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court subsequently fixed the new date for submission of the probe report.
The ACC filed the case on September 3, 2026, under Sections 409 and 109 of the Penal Code, 1860, and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947. According to the case documents, Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana established the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust on September 6, 1994. The trust deed named Hasina as its lifetime chairperson and Rehana as chairperson in her absence.
The case documents allege that the trust received Tk 276.34 crore from the CSR funds of 41 banks through the exercise of influence and the alleged improper intervention of Mazumder, who was then serving as chairman of the Bangladesh Association of Banks. The allegations are part of the ongoing investigation. The court has set the next deadline for the ACC to submit its report.
