3-Year-Old Soccer Star Nevada Pierre Goes Viral After Police Call

WINTER PARK, Florida — A dispute involving a three-year-old soccer player in Florida has drawn widespread attention after a youth sports league official called police during a disagreement with the boy’s parents over his participation in a game. The child, Nevada Neymar Pierre, was playing in an i9 Sports youth soccer program at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Winter Park, near Orlando, on October 24 when the dispute occurred.

The incident gained national attention after videos of the young player’s soccer skills circulated on social media and police released body-camera footage and audio of the 911 call. The controversy has centered on why the boy was taken out of the game and why the league official asked his parents to leave.

According to police body-camera footage and reporting by ABC News and local station News 6, the league’s athletic director told officers that Nevada was an advanced player who scored frequently but had also allegedly pushed other children during play. The official said he had tried to manage the situation by asking the boy to stop pushing and by substituting him to give other children more opportunities to participate.

He told police that tensions escalated after the parents challenged his decision and that he called 911 because he believed a parent was disrupting the event. The official asked police to help communicate that the family should leave the program and said the family would be offered a refund.

Nevada’s mother, Martasia Griffin, disputed the official’s account and said she believed her son was being sidelined because of his soccer ability. Griffin told ABC News that her son had repeatedly been taken out of games and that she objected when the league decided to substitute him again. She said the family had enrolled him to play soccer and questioned why his performance had become a source of conflict.

Videos shared by the family show Nevada dribbling past older children and scoring goals. His mother has said he was playing in a league with children around five years old, despite being only three. The family’s account and the league official’s allegations differ. The available footage and statements do not establish that the police call was made because the child was too talented.

The Winter Park Police Department said officers responded on October 24 after a youth sports director requested assistance with a dispute involving a player’s parents. In a public statement, the department said the parents were already preparing to leave when officers arrived. Police described the family as cooperative and said the incident was a civil matter between the league and the parents, not a criminal case.

The department also clarified that no one was arrested, issued a trespass notice or forced to leave the public park. Officers helped facilitate communication about the proposed refund. The police statement directly addressed online claims that the call had been prompted by the child’s soccer ability, saying there had been no indication that his performance was the reason for the call.

The i9 Sports program involved in the dispute said it was aware of concerns about the incident and had contacted the family. The organization said it was reviewing the matter and speaking with those involved. The league emphasized that the respectful treatment and well-being of children and families were important, adding that it would not speculate while the review was underway.

The incident has prompted broader discussion on social media about how youth sports programs balance individual talent, equal playing time, sportsmanship and the treatment of families. For now, the central facts are that a league official called police during a disagreement with the child’s parents, the family disputed the official’s explanation, and police classified the matter as civil rather than criminal.

Messi’s Inter Miami Held to 2-2 Draw by FC Cincinnati

MIAMI — Inter Miami CF were held to a 2-2 draw by FC Cincinnati in a Major League Soccer (MLS) regular-season match on Wednesday, as a late equalizer from Brazilian youngster Riquelme helped Miami avoid a second consecutive defeat. Luis Suárez opened the scoring for Inter Miami in the 61st minute, putting the home side ahead after a closely contested encounter at Nu Stadium in Miami.

FC Cincinnati responded in the closing stages. Kenji Mboma Dem equalized in the 80th minute before Samuel Gidi scored six minutes later to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. With Miami facing the prospect of another loss, Riquelme struck in the 90th minute to restore parity and secure a point for the home team.

Miami had to fight back after Cincinnati turned the match around with two goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation time. Suárez’s goal had initially put the hosts in a favorable position, but Cincinnati’s late attacking pressure changed the momentum. Mboma Dem brought the visitors level before Gidi’s goal appeared to put them on course for victory. Riquelme’s late intervention, however, ensured that Miami avoided defeat.

Lionel Messi featured in the match, although he did not score. The draw came at an important stage of the MLS regular season, with both clubs seeking to strengthen their positions in the Eastern Conference standings. For Inter Miami, the late equalizer provided some relief after a difficult spell. Cincinnati, meanwhile, will be disappointed not to have held on after taking the lead so late in the game.

Miami will now turn its attention to its next league fixture against the New England Revolution on November 1, while Cincinnati are scheduled to face the Philadelphia Union on October 31.

Final score: Inter Miami CF 2-2 FC Cincinnati
Goals:
61′ — Luis Suárez (Inter Miami)
80′ — Kenji Mboma Dem (FC Cincinnati)
86′ — Samuel Gidi (FC Cincinnati)
90′ — Riquelme (Inter Miami)

Kansas City Current Beat Washington Spirit 2-1

KANSAS CITY — Washington Spirit suffered a 2-1 defeat to Kansas City Current in a crucial late-season National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) encounter on Sunday at CPKC Stadium. Despite taking an early lead, Washington could not hold on as the hosts scored twice in quick succession to secure the comeback victory ahead of the playoffs. The match produced all three goals in the first half. Washington struck first, but Kansas City responded with two goals within a five-minute span to take control. Spirit pushed for an equalizer after the break, creating attacking opportunities, but the hosts’ defensive organization and goalkeeper Lorena’s performance kept the visitors at bay.

Washington Spirit took the lead in the 12th minute when forward Gift Monday found the net. The visitors capitalized on an opportunity to go 1-0 ahead, putting early pressure on the home side. However, Washington’s advantage lasted only briefly. Kansas City Current equalized in the 14th minute through Lo’eau LaBonta, who finished an attacking move to bring the hosts back into the contest.

Just three minutes later, Kansas City moved ahead. Vanessa DiBernardo scored in the 17th minute, converting an opportunity created by Croix Bethune. The quick turnaround put the Current in front 2-1, a lead they would maintain until the final whistle. The rapid sequence of goals shifted the momentum decisively in Kansas City’s favor and left Washington chasing the game for the remainder of the contest.

Washington increased its attacking pressure after halftime, attempting to find a way back into the match. Spirit worked to create openings in Kansas City’s defensive line, but the hosts remained organized and limited the visitors’ clear chances. Lorena proved particularly important in the 77th minute, making a crucial double save to deny Washington an opportunity to level the score.

Despite a late push from Spirit, Kansas City held firm defensively and protected its one-goal advantage. The 2-1 victory extended the Current’s winning streak to four matches, giving the team additional momentum heading into the postseason.

The match also brought a significant individual milestone for Kansas City midfielder Croix Bethune. Her assist on DiBernardo’s goal brought her season total to 11, setting a new NWSL single-season record for assists, according to the match account. DiBernardo also reached a notable milestone, making her 200th NWSL regular-season appearance. She became the fifth player in league history to reach that mark.

Approximately 18,000 fans attended the match at CPKC Stadium. Kansas City’s unbeaten home streak also extended to 32 matches, underscoring the team’s strength on home turf. The Current have built a strong home-field record over recent seasons, providing an important foundation for their push toward the NWSL playoffs.

Following the victory, Kansas City Current moved to fourth place in the standings with 50 points, while Washington Spirit remained third with 52 points. Both teams had secured playoff places entering the closing stretch of the regular season.

The final regular-season fixtures remain important because the standings determine postseason positioning and home-field advantage. With only a narrow points gap separating the teams, the results of the remaining matches could influence their final rankings ahead of the playoffs. For Washington, the defeat highlights the importance of finishing the regular season strongly and addressing defensive vulnerabilities before the knockout stage begins.

Washington Spirit will return to action on Sunday, November 1, 2026, when the team hosts Chicago Stars FC at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The fixture will be Washington’s final regular-season match and an opportunity to regain momentum before the playoffs. Playing in front of their home supporters, Spirit will look to finish the regular season with a victory while strengthening their position heading into the postseason.

Meanwhile, Kansas City Current is scheduled to visit Racing Louisville FC on the same day. Both teams will then turn their attention to the NWSL playoffs, where every result will carry greater significance as the race for the championship intensifies.

Messi’s Inter Miami Lose 2-0 to New York Red Bulls

HARRISON, NJ — Lionel Messi came off the bench in the second half, but Inter Miami CF could not avoid a 2-0 defeat to the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer action on Saturday night. An early own goal by Miami midfielder Casemiro gave the Red Bulls the lead, while Emil Forsberg scored in second-half stoppage time to secure the victory at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey. The defeat ended Miami’s three-game winning streak and gave the Red Bulls valuable points in their push for an MLS playoff place.

The Red Bulls took the lead in the seventh minute when Inter Miami midfielder Casemiro inadvertently put the ball into his own net. The early goal gave New York confidence, and the home side worked to protect its advantage while limiting Miami’s attacking opportunities. Inter Miami enjoyed more possession but struggled to turn that control into clear scoring chances. Red Bulls goalkeeper Ethan Horvath made two saves to help preserve the clean sheet.

Miami introduced Lionel Messi in the 56th minute, with the Argentine superstar replacing Riquelme Fillipi. The substitution was intended to provide an attacking spark as Inter Miami searched for an equalizer. However, the visitors were unable to break through New York’s defense. Messi attempted to influence the game after entering, but Miami could not find the goal it needed to get back into the contest.

The Red Bulls secured the result in the first minute of second-half stoppage time. Emil Forsberg, who had entered the match as a substitute in the 85th minute, scored after receiving assistance from Cameron Harper and Ronald Donkor. The late strike made it 2-0 and ensured that New York finished the match with all three points. The result was particularly important for the Red Bulls, who entered the match fighting to remain above the Eastern Conference playoff line.

Inter Miami controlled 62 percent of possession but failed to convert that advantage into a goal. New York’s disciplined defense and effective goalkeeping proved decisive. Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair also made several saves, but the visitors could not overcome the early own goal and Forsberg’s late finish. Before the match, Messi had recorded 25 goals and 15 assists in the 2026 MLS regular season. He was unable to add to those totals against New York.

Inter Miami will look to bounce back when they host FC Cincinnati on Wednesday, October 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at Miami Freedom Park. With the regular season approaching its conclusion, Miami will be looking to regain momentum and strengthen its position ahead of the MLS playoffs. The upcoming match will provide Messi and his teammates with an opportunity to respond after a disappointing performance in New Jersey.

NYCFC Draw 2-2 With Orlando City as Jonny Shore Scores Late

ORLANDO, Fla. — New York City FC salvaged a point with a dramatic stoppage-time equalizer in a 2-2 draw against Orlando City SC on Saturday night, October 24, in Major League Soccer action. Jonny Shore scored in the 10th minute of second-half stoppage time to rescue NYCFC after Orlando had overturned an early deficit and moved ahead in the second half.

Alonso Martínez opened the scoring for New York City in the 18th minute. Orlando responded through Antoine Griezmann in the 32nd minute before Martín Ojeda put the hosts ahead in the 49th minute. Shore’s late strike secured a share of the points.

NYCFC started aggressively and found the breakthrough in the 18th minute. Hannes Wolf helped create the opportunity, with Martínez finishing from close range after Orlando goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau could not hold the ball.

New York City continued to threaten, but Orlando gradually found its rhythm. In the 32nd minute, Martín Ojeda delivered a cross that Griezmann met with a header to level the score at 1-1. Both teams created additional chances before halftime, but neither managed to regain the lead.

Orlando came out strongly after the break and took the lead in the 49th minute. Following an attacking move involving Iván Angulo and Vinícius Nogueira, Ojeda finished to make it 2-1. NYCFC pushed forward in search of an equalizer, creating several opportunities. The visitors had a major chance in the 81st minute when Talles Magno won a penalty. However, Magno sent his spot kick just wide, allowing Orlando to maintain its advantage. The missed penalty appeared costly as the match entered its closing stages.

NYCFC refused to give up. Deep into stoppage time, James Sands played the ball back to Shore near the top of the penalty area. Shore struck first time, sending a low shot into the net to make it 2-2. The goal in the 90th minute plus 10 minutes gave New York City a dramatic late equalizer and prevented a road defeat. Despite the draw, NYCFC will be looking to improve its results as the regular season approaches its conclusion.

New York City finished with 53.7 percent possession and 17 shots, compared with Orlando’s 46.3 percent possession and nine shots. NYCFC also recorded nine corners, while Orlando had three. Bangladeshi-Rooted Football Prodigy Cavan Sullivan Set for Manchester City

Shibbir Ahmed, New York — Cavan Sullivan, a young American football sensation of Bangladeshi descent, is attracting growing attention in international football. At just 17, the midfielder has already demonstrated his talent in professional football. Following his debut and goal for the United States senior national team, interest in his career has increased further. His potential move to Manchester City, one of the leading clubs in the English Premier League, has also become a major talking point.

However, Sullivan is not yet a Manchester City player. He currently plays for Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer (MLS). Under an existing agreement, he is expected to join Manchester City in January 2028, after turning 18. Football journalist Tom Bogert has also reported that the plan for Sullivan to join City remains unchanged. However, the transfer has not yet been completed.

Born on September 28, 2009, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sullivan attracted attention at an early age because of his passion for football and exceptional technical ability. In 2024, at just 14, he made his professional first-team debut for Philadelphia Union. He signed a contract with the club in May of the same year, becoming one of the youngest players in MLS history to sign a first-team contract.

Sullivan’s main strengths include ball control, dribbling, quick decision-making and his ability to create attacking opportunities. Although he primarily plays in midfield, he can also operate on either flank in the attacking third. His confidence and maturity on the pitch, particularly for his age, have established him as one of the United States’ most promising young football talents.

One of the most closely watched aspects of Sullivan’s career is his planned future move to Manchester City. Arrangements for his eventual move to the English club were made alongside his contract with Philadelphia Union in 2024. However, international transfer regulations generally prevent players under the age of 18 from moving abroad to join English clubs, subject to limited exceptions. Sullivan will turn 18 on September 28, 2027, making January 2028 the reported target for his potential move to England.

His future has attracted renewed attention amid Manchester City’s ongoing financial regulations case. Reports have also suggested that other European clubs could become interested in the young midfielder. Nevertheless, information published in early October 2026 indicated that the plan for Sullivan to join City remained in place. For now, Sullivan remains a Philadelphia Union player, with Manchester City representing a potential next chapter in his career rather than a completed transfer.

In recognition of his club performances, Sullivan received his first call-up to the United States senior national team in September 2026. He made his senior international debut against Peru in a friendly on September 26. A few days later, on October 3, he scored against Mexico, making history as the youngest goalscorer in the history of the United States men’s senior national team. He achieved the milestone just days after turning 17.

His rapid rise to the senior international stage and his early goalscoring achievement have further raised expectations for his future. However, sustained success at international level will depend on consistent performances, experience and continued development.

One of the most distinctive aspects of Sullivan’s background is his family’s connection to Bangladesh. His maternal grandmother, Sultana Alam, was born and raised in Dhaka. She later pursued higher education in the United States and reportedly earned a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.

Sultana Alam married Klaus Krippendorff, a prominent German-born scholar. Their daughter, Heike Krippendorff, is Sullivan’s mother. Through this family connection, Sullivan has both Bangladeshi and German ancestry. He was born in the United States, where his football career has also developed.

Sullivan’s connection to Bangladesh extends beyond his family heritage. His older twin brothers, Ronan Sullivan and Declan Sullivan, have represented Bangladesh at the under-20 level. Both were associated with Bangladesh’s championship-winning campaign at the 2026 SAFF U-20 Championship. Ronan scored twice against Pakistan and played an important role in Bangladesh’s penalty shootout victory over India in the final. The involvement of three brothers in international football, with connections to two different national teams, has brought the Sullivan family additional attention.

Sullivan’s Bangladeshi ancestry has prompted discussion about whether he could represent Bangladesh internationally. However, his current international career places him in a different position. After making his senior debut for the United States in September 2026, he scored for the team in early October. Any assessment of his potential eligibility to represent Bangladesh would require careful consideration of FIFA’s nationality and international transfer-of-association regulations, as well as the status of his appearances for the United States. Bangladeshi ancestry alone does not automatically guarantee eligibility to represent Bangladesh at senior international level.

Sullivan now faces two important priorities: continuing his development with Philadelphia Union and establishing himself in the United States national team. If he joins Manchester City as planned, he could eventually have an opportunity to prove himself at the highest levels of European football.

However, joining a major club is only one step toward success. Securing regular playing time, improving his physical capabilities and maintaining consistency against elite opposition will be crucial to his long-term development. With his Bangladeshi family roots, rapid rise in American football and potential future at Manchester City, Cavan Sullivan is emerging as one of the most intriguing young prospects in international football.

NYCFC to Open Etihad Park in Summer 2027

Shibbir Ahmed, New York — New York City FC (NYCFC) announced that it will play its first match at Etihad Park, New York City’s first soccer-specific stadium, at the start of the 2027–28 Major League Soccer (MLS) season in summer 2027. The announcement comes as MLS prepares to transition to a new competition calendar. Before the new calendar takes effect, the league will stage a shortened transition season from February through May 2027, featuring a 14-game regular season, playoffs and MLS Cup.

During that transition season, NYCFC will continue playing its home matches at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field before moving into its new home at Etihad Park for the 2027–28 campaign.

“We cannot wait to welcome our fans for the first-ever New York City FC match at Etihad Park,” said Brad Sims, NYCFC chief executive officer. Sims said construction was progressing well and remained on schedule. He explained that opening the stadium at the beginning of a full MLS season would give supporters a more complete experience and align the venue’s debut with a new chapter for both the club and the league.

“Opening alongside a full season ensures our fans can experience Etihad Park from day one, rather than in the middle of a transition year,” Sims said. He added that the timing would allow the club to celebrate its final matches at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field, prepare for the move and deliver a major opening that reflects the stadium’s significance to the club and New York City.

NYCFC said it plans to hold test events in the months leading up to the start of the 2027–28 season to ensure the stadium is ready for its official opening. The club thanked supporters for their continued support and said it looked forward to beginning a new chapter at Etihad Park. The stadium is expected to become the club’s dedicated home, marking a significant milestone for NYCFC and its supporters.

NYCFC also outlined plans for City Members during the shortened 2027 transition season. According to the club, members will automatically receive tickets to transition-season matches at a flat rate consistent with their 2026 Membership plan, as previously communicated during the “Your First March to Etihad Park” renewal period in April. Additional information about priority access, invoices and payment plans will be communicated to members separately in the coming weeks.

With the stadium debut scheduled for summer 2027, NYCFC will spend the transition season playing at its existing home venues while preparing for its move to Etihad Park and the beginning of the new MLS competition calendar.
